There are several rules when it comes to using search engines for marketing. One minor slip and you could end up in a place you don’t want to be. We have 9 points that we will share with you on how to avoid the Google issues you may have experienced in the past to keep your website where it needs to be.
We will start out with number 9 and work our way to the number 1 spot, while building suspense regarding the Google issues you might have encountered.
Your Low Level Visitor Count: Google through a series of mathematical equations will record your visitor count and then compare it to your competition. If during this time your count is lower than the other site you could be ranked as less important than the competition. In other words this means you are considered less relevant and your quality is considered low. You can plan for this incident to occur and then combat it. If you need to get traffic to your site them make sure you are letting that happen through a variety of SEO techniques like link baiting.
Google doesn’t always like the links that are going to your site: Google has trusted sites, which means they are more important to Google’s results. If you have trusted sites linking to your site then you will be seen in a better light than if you just have any old link. In other words trusted sites like .org, .edu, .gov, etc. are going to be more beneficial to you. Google figures untrustworthy sites will stay together in a pod; therefore you need to stay away from them as well.
Slow Servers and Web Hosting: Consumers don’t like to waste time on a site. They want to get their information and then leave. By allowing your site to stay on a time wasting server you will hinder your chances of getting repeat consumers, but more than that Google is not going to be happy. Google and other search engines don’t like to waste time either. Therefore they will avoid sites that will take too much time to load and rank them low. It doesn’t matter if quality is in the content, if Google doesn’t like the time frame they are going to exit stage right.
Links need to be natural. You should not buy or sell links. This will get you into trouble and there is a penalty.
Keyword Use is important. You don’t want to use the same keyword or too many keywords in your content. Google will look at this as low quality. You should place keywords throughout where it makes sense to do so. You should have keywords in your title, tag, and main content.
Duplicate content for titles and meta tags: You never want to have a duplicate title or meta tag. This is a sure way of getting yourself boosted off the search engine. Google takes a lot of time searching for the original content and you will only succeed if you offer the proper keywords, titles, and meta tags. Something too close to another site could have you visiting the black hole of indexes.
Number 3 of the must not is Linking your Site to the wrong sites: In other words you do not want to link with a low quality site. This is a lot like number 6 in which you need trusted site links, but the low quality site doesn’t mean it isn’t trusted, just that it doesn’t have the right information. You need to be extremely careful in the links you choose. By associating with a low quality site you may be seen as low quality.
Duplicate Content is a huge no- no. You need to work carefully on the content you supply. You should not pirate any content you use. Nor should you allow your site to have matches out there. By using Copyscape and other tools you can make sure you are not making duplicate content pages. Even if you have more than one site, the content needs to differ. Google will choose the original or what they think is the original site and the others will be in the wind. You can also get a penalty for the wrong type of duplicate content.
You don’t want your server to be down ever! When Google sends out Bots to crawl your site you need to make sure it is working. If you have a 404 site not found on a web page Google is trying to access you will be sent to the bottomless index pit or worse.
