A computer application which is used to create, edit and manage the digital media and electronic text is known as content management system (CMS). This system is commonly used for storing, controlling and publishing the specialised documents for the industries like articles, brochures, sales guides and manuals etc.

I have noticed that with the advancement in technology, the content management systems have become popular as compared to the traditional systems. It is named so because this system manages the content like computer files, images, audio files, electronic files and media files etc.

There are various other categories of management systems like electronic management system, web management system and digital asset management etc. These systems are specialised systems of content management in which focus is given to one type of content. The aim of all these systems is to manage the content and represent the work in a more organised manner.

CMS has certain features like it identifies all key users and their roles. It defines the workflow for alerting the content creator regarding the change. Moreover, this system is able to manage multiple versions of content, capture content and publish the content to repository.
